MAY 20 News

As we continue in lock-down, we are really happy to bring some good news about VC:

Adès/Rennie – 48 Hours

We were delighted to find out in May that Tullis Rennie received his grant from PRSF to complete his work for Adès/Rennie – 48 Hours! This month would have been the launch of the project. We have been missing the collective, the chamber music, and Adès’ piece that we explored together. However, Tullis has finished his score, and in the meantime we created an online preview together to mark the day of (what would have been) the launch, the 22nd of May, which was also the 5th anniversary of the Vonnegut Collective!

Online Mindful Miniatures

We are also really pleased to share that we were successful in our application to the ACE Emergency Support Fund, to run our online project ‘Online Mindful Miniatures’. VC musicians will be collaborating with YOU to create new work. Take a look here to get involved, we are very excited about it!

Interviews & Performances

Our founders Gemma & Gary were invited by No Dice Collective (back in March!) on the show Classical Music Now, talking about improv, Adès and music education. You can listen to their interview here with Joe Chesterman March. Plus two of our fellow VC members and lovely couple, Gemma & Graham, improvised for the first time as a part of Efpi Records‘ contribution to Manchester Jazz Festival. Take a look at their wonderful piece and interview here – definitely not one to miss (It’s around 2 hours into the show).

Life in Lockdown

For our collective, having a bit more time means having the chance to do a range of different things…some of us have been watching online masterclasses with violinists and applying new techniques to practice, learning Spanish to feel more connected to family members, developing (amateur!) singing techniques to increase well-being, attending movement improv sessions to off-set the computer-sitting, lots of walking to encourage a new found interest in plant names and of course, there have been rumours of more sourdough baking! However we are also remembering that it is important to relax and take time to check in with our minds and bodies.

We hope you are all well and remember, come and join our musicians with our Online Mindful Miniatures project!
